Hey, I totally forgot I had a blog! But then, pregnancy does that to some people. Yes, folks, I am a mommy now. I went to the wedding of a couple of old friends in Ohio last September with a couple of other friends, came home, and got knocked up a couple days later. I had my sweet girl in June, so she's now 4 months old, and the absolute light of my life. Look at this face, how could you not be madly in love with her?

Ahem. Yeah. So, that whole grad school thing's been put on hold while I raise her up right. And by right, I mean supporting her in whatever she wants to do, but hoping she's not too foofy, and never ever reading dreck like Twilight. So far she seems strong, smart, and funny, and I hope she stays that way forever.
Know what I'm thinking about doing now? Going into business with a friend of mine. She's a photographer (she took Babby's picture above), and I love to bake. I think we should combine our talents and become a one-stop wedding shop. Except I can't do wedding cakes. I make ugly cakes. But I could do nontraditional wedding desserts. Cupcakes, cookies, and especially cheesecakes. My cheesecakes are kickass. So I'm told. I hate cream cheese, so I don't eat cheesecake. I hope my friends haven't been lying to me. I don't think they are, though. My famous mini cheesecakes are always a hit.

Well, considering I'm 25, married, and 120 miles away, my mother probably doesn't have a thought in her head about where I am. Plus, it's 5:15 at home, so hopefully she's still asleep. I have little bouts of insomnia though, which I inherited from her and her father, who practically raised me. Besides, I am actually in bed. I just can't sleep. So, what to post about? There's nothing much new going on. I'm getting my home decorating fix by painting small things, since living in an apartment means a pain in the ass when it comes to painting rooms. Either they won't let you do it at all, or you have to paint it back before you move out, which seems like a lot of unnecessary work. Work and I do not get along well, so I would prefer to skip that. We have 6 more months on our lease, then hoooopefully we can look for a house of our very own. Depending on where we'll be living. I've bookmarked houses around here, which are mostly, um, not our style, to say the least. Let's put it this way. I'd prefer not to get shot, have my car stolen, or neighbors involved in drug busts, if you get my drift. I've looked a little tonight in Madison, since he says he'd like to move back there. I'd rather not, personally, but there are worse places to live. I'd rather move to Columbus or that area to be near my family.
Oh, and we got a new cat. She's adjusted quite quickly to our house, and for the first few days, scared the crap out of our first cat. They're getting along fairly well now, though. They're not bosom buddies yet, but they're not really slapping at each other anymore.
Hmm. Maybe I will try to get some sleep, after all. I've only just realized how boring I am when I start getting kind of sleepy. Re-reading this post is about to knock me out. 'Night, all!

Earlier today, I was chatting on Facebook with my third sister. She's the sister I'm closest to, in age and personality. We were talking about our cats, both the ones that live with us and the ones that live at our mother's house, when the conversation evolved to this:
Laura
You realize if our husbands pass before us, we're going to move in together and be the crazy cat lady duo, right?
4:02pmAmanda
i was hoping so
sit on the porch and throw things at children too, i hope
4:03pmLaura
My allergies don't act up around cats anymore.
Well I wouldn't have that any other way.
Rocks, or bottles?
4:03pmAmanda
rocks
4:03pmLaura
Or fruit.
4:03pmAmanda
rotten fruit?? hopes
4:04pmLaura
It would be eventually.
4:04pmAmanda
GET OFF THE STAGE!
4:04pmLaura
Keep a bucket of oranges on the porch and throw them every day.
They'll progressively get moldier.
4:04pmAmanda
and harder, much like rocks
but then we have to go collect the oranges from the yard
4:05pmLaura
But easier to defend a charge of assault with a deadly weapon against.
4:05pmAmanda
that sounds suspiciously like work.
4:05pmLaura
We'll have orange trees, then.
Plant them so the fruit drops on the porch.
4:05pmAmanda
oh good
4:06pmLaura
Do other people have discussions like this?

i hope so

Hi, my name is Laura, and I'm a YA Lit addict.
Oh, not that kind of intro.
It's true, though. My name is Laura. I'm a half-decent, in my very humble opinion, writer and editor, but I can't pay the rent doing those things in Alabama, so I'm going to go back to school next year to become a librarian. Which I know some of you are wondering if that can pay the rent in Alabama. I can assure you it can and will.
I like libraries. I love books. My husband says I have too many. I tell him he has too much computer junk. It all evens out.
Yeah, I'm married, too. Dry those tears, boys.
So what will this blog be? Well, a variety of things, I suppose. I have writing projects in my head that may never get written down otherwise (move over, pile-o'-crap that is Twilight- this is gonna be the next big thing). I can give shoutouts to my friends (Yo, Superfluous Heroine! thesuperfluousheroine.blogspot.com) I can rant about my days as a retail slave, although I usually save that kind of thing for Retail Hell Underground. Check it out. And finally, I can talk about the boringness of the life of a not-at-the-moment grad student.
I don't know where it's going to go, although one can always hope for a book deal, but I hope you enjoy the ride.
